The practice now known as Rainsville Family Practice, LLC dates back to 1988 when Dr. Thomas Horton originally came to DeKalb County and opened a practice behind DeKalb Baptist Medical Center in Fort Payne, AL.
The practice quickly outgrew this space and was moved to Forest Avenue where it became officially called Forest Avenue Family Practice. For the following five years, Dr. Horton was privileged to serve the citizens of DeKalb County in this location.
In 1993, the practice was renamed Rainsville Family Practice and relocated to Rainsville in a move made possible by the city of Rainsville under the leadership of Mayor Roy Sanderson and the local medical board.
In 1998, we moved to the newly constructed Rainsville Medical Plaza. Our new location offered the ability to modernize and fully utilize innovations such as electronic medical records.
In 2006, Dr. Horton accepted a teaching position in the family medicine department at the University Medical Center in Jackson, MS. After two exciting years in the academic environment, Dr. Horton felt the call to again return to Dekalb County and reopen the practice in late 2008 at the intersection of Hwy 35 and Hwy 75 in Rainsville. After two years in this location, the practice was moved to a more modern location near Dekalb Regional Medical Center in Fort Payne on 7/1/2010.
History never stands still. None of us can know what the future holds, but we will continually strive to serve our patients better. We look forward to having you make the journey with us.
